Electrical calculation

Pump station
generator sizing

Estimate the generator capacity required to run and start pump motors. Compare conventional starting, standard six-pulse VSD and low-harmonic VSD cases, then create a preliminary PDF report.

Auxiliary loads may include controls, lighting, ventilation, dosing, grinders and other essential equipment.

Advanced assumptions Adjust supply and design margins

Use the generator manufacturer's combined altitude and ambient-temperature derating factor. Leave at 100% when no derating is applicable.

Engineering review remains essential.

01

Running demand

Motor shaft rating is converted to electrical input using efficiency and running power factor, then combined with essential auxiliary loads.

02

Starting and VSD demand

Conventional starting uses an adjustable current multiplier. VSD cases add an adjustable generator-loading limit to account for nonlinear load and harmonic performance.

03

Generator selection

The governing continuous, starting or VSD allowance is adjusted for design margin and site derating, then rounded up to a common rating.
