Hydraulic calculation

Parallel pump
operation

Estimate how the operating point moves when identical pumps are added in parallel—and quantify the diminishing flow gained from each additional pump.

Registration required for results

Enter verified curve data.No pump or system values are preselected. Use three points from the same certified single-pump curve and one known point from the system curve.

Project

Single-pump curve

Point 1 · Shut-off
Point 2 · Mid curve
Point 3 · High flow

Point 3 must have higher flow and lower head than Point 2. The tool fits a quadratic through the entered points and does not use data outside the entered flow range.

System curve

System-curve modelSystem head = static head + K × total flow²

The known system point should include all friction and minor losses at that flow. The model assumes the system resistance coefficient remains constant.

Combined pump curves
meet rising system resistance

01

Single-pump curve

A quadratic is fitted through the entered shut-off, mid-curve and high-flow points from one identical pump.

02

Parallel operation

At a given head, the flows of identical parallel pumps are added horizontally to form each combined pump curve.

03

System intersection

The operating point occurs where the combined pump curve meets the rising system curve, which limits the gain from each added pump.
