Hydraulic calculation

Pipe velocity
& friction loss

Check flow velocity and calculate straight-pipe, fitting and valve losses using the Darcy–Weisbach method.

Registration required for results

Enter your project values. No pipe, fluid or design criteria are preselected. Example placeholders show format only; verify all data against the actual pipeline.

Required so Metsiworx can retain the calculation record and contact you if an engineering concern is identified.

Project

Flow and pipeline

Use the actual internal diameter for the selected material, pressure class and dimension ratio. Obtain adopted roughness from the design basis, pipe supplier or applicable engineering reference.

Fluid and minor losses

The K value is the sum of the adopted loss coefficients for valves, bends, entries, exits and fittings in this section. Enter 0 only when minor losses are intentionally excluded.

Project velocity criteria Used only for the velocity flag

Enter the velocity limits adopted for this project. The calculator does not prescribe a Metsiworx default limit.

01

Velocity and Reynolds number

Flow and actual internal diameter determine mean velocity. Kinematic viscosity is used to establish the flow regime.

02

Darcy friction

Laminar flow uses 64/Re. Turbulent and transitional cases use the Swamee–Jain approximation with the entered absolute roughness.

03

Total pipeline loss

Straight-pipe Darcy loss and K-based minor losses are combined and converted into pressure loss using the entered fluid density.
